Tonight was a wonderful night. We had another wonderful turn out of 26 children! Everyone was all smiles in their super adorable PJs! It was great to see everyone having a blast! We had the Norfolk State University Sorority Girls back, along with the VBPD Police Explorers, Several Navy Brig Volunteers, and other military volunteers! We also had a couple of First Colonial High School National Honor Society members here! It was a wonderful night and each child left with a small toy! We also has a clown with Balloon animals, which was a huge hit! Thank you to everyone who came out today. You have helped 26 children have yet another wonderful evening!
Heather Wade is a mom of two wonderful boys, Kasey and Aidan, and has been coming to our jumps for a while now! Her son Aidan has an amazingly kind heart to match his brother's adorable smile and wonderful personality. We asked Heather to write a blog post about her sons experience with Buddies as well as her own! Thanks Heather! (:
Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I have 2 boys Aidan and Kasey. Kasey has Autism, some developmental learning disabilities, and some problems with ADHD. I had a friend tell me about this group called Autism Buddies, and decided to contact them and find out more. I liked what I heard! I decided to let Kasey try, I got in contact with Taylor and she got us started. It's been nothing shy of amazing, for Kasey. I have had the opportunity to to bring him to many of the jumps and he loves it! The way I see him interact with his buddies actually has brought tears to my eyes, he doesn't always interact with others like that. He is free when he is there......no one to judge him, he just gets to be Kasey. Now on to Aidan this has just as much of a great experience for him, because he gets to be a buddy to another child. I think that it has helped Aidan open his mind to how special his very own brother is. Autism Buddies also has given us the opportunity to take the boys kayaking, yes kayaking and it was AWESOME! The boys loved it more then I ever could have imagined. Last but not least I like to say the volunteers are second to none, some words that come to mind are kind, caring, and genuine just to name a few! I also feel like I have made some new friends myself and everyone could use some of those. So in short my family loves Autism Buddies our new friends for life!
Hey Everyone! My name is Bhakti; I’m 17 and have been volunteering for this amazing program for about three years now. Even after three years I clearly remember my first time volunteering as a buddy. I walked into the Bounce House to see a bunch of happy kids bouncing around with their buddy, and some anxious parents idling by the door peaking at their little angel having a blast. Walking in I thought that the little one that I would be paired up with might take a while to warm up to me and it might be a little awkward; however, my little buddy without hesitating latched onto my arm and started bouncing fearlessly. You would think that after two hours of bouncing you would be a little tired, but I remember feeling what you can call rejuvenated. Just spending one night with this program can give you the hope and confidence to keep chugging along every day because if these little kids can do it, you can too. I’m not going to lie and say that it’s all giggles, smiles, and sunshine all of the time because occasionally you’ll get a kid who doesn’t want to participate or a kid who might be a little shy, but those are definitely the best ones because after they break out of that little shell, there’s no stopping them from having the time of their life. There is no better feeling than to get a kid who walked in bawling his eyes out to not only have a good time, but to ask you when he could come back again to play with you, and it doesn’t just end there. Those anxious parents who were standing by the door in the beginning are back now with a smile waiting to embrace you and thank you for being so patient and kind with their child. I genuinely consider Autism Buddies to be a blessing in my life.

Have a great Day!
Hey Everyone! Those of you who have been to Autism Buddies before will recognize me in this photo, and for those of you who haven't, now you'll know me! I'm Taylor and I founded Autism Buddies with my mom when I was 12. Now, I'm 17 and still run this awesome program with all I've got! However, this program would not be possible without the donors and volunteers that we have had the wonderfully amazing privilege of working with for the past 5 years. It is amazing to see how Autism Buddies has grown over the years and developed into an amazing program that impacts so many. We hope to offer lots more in these coming years and cannot wait to see what the future holds. Thank you for visiting our website. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions. I promise to provide a prompt and hopefully helpful response, with Autism Buddies or any Autism questions you may have! Use the contact form on this site or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Have a wonderful day(:
